Our Members

UT OLLI SAGE (Seminars for Adult Growth and Enrichment) members represent a broad spectrum of adult professionals, homemakers and community volunteers who want to pursue lifelong learning opportunities in a university environment. Some have advanced degrees; some have never been inside a college classroom. Their life experiences immeasurably enrich the program curriculum and invite lively social interaction and intellectual exchanges. At UT OLLI SAGE we like to call it, “having serious fun.”

Ours is a member-planned and member-facilitated program. Members volunteer to serve on various committees charged with planning our regularly scheduled enrichment programs, seminars, socials and field trips. Committee members work closely with the UT OLLI program staff to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

UT OLLI SAGE offers three six-week sessions each year that meet on Mondays from 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Instructors include UT Austin academics, scholars and local experts offering in-depth knowledge and expertise of a broad range of subject areas.

Monday Seminars Schedule

  • 9:30-10:45 a.m. – First Seminar
  • 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Second Seminar
  • 1:15-2:45 p.m. – Third Seminar
  • 3-4:30 p.m. – Fourth Seminar

Prior to the start of each session, members sign up for seminars on subjects covering a wide range of topics from art, music, religion and literature to history, science, technology and current events. Members are asked to indicate their first, second and third seminar preferences. Recent seminar topics have included:

  • Field Archeology 101
  • Why Nations Fail
  • The Life & Music of George Gershwin
  • India–Country of Diversity
  • The American Short Story After 1950

All extracurricular activities are optional and require an additional, though nominal, cost. Independent special-interest groups (SIGs) are sometimes formed by members who decide to meet off-campus and outside regular program curriculum.

Session Opener - the UT OLLI SAGE Enrichment Program

Before the start of each six-week session, UT OLLI SAGE members are invited to attend a half-day enrichment program featuring guest speakers and discussion panels. Recent enrichment programs have explored:

  • Challenges Facing Collegiate Athletics
  • Exploring Earth and Space
  • Austin Music Makers
  • Cold War, Conspiracy and the Making of The Manchurian Candidate

Optional Excursions and Meetups

Two one-day field trips are offered each year, and three end-of-session socials are open to all UT OLLI SAGE members.
